Pros & Cons
Pros
Massive and compact reach: Delivers 300-800mm equivalent (up to 1000mm with internal TC) in a body weighing less than 2kg. Integrated teleconverter: Allows you to change the focal length instantly with a physical switch without exposing the sensor to dust. Leading stabilization (Sync IS): Up to 8 stops of compensation, making handheld shooting at 1000mm totally viable. Constant aperture f/4.5: Maintains the same brightness throughout the zoom range (goes to f/5.6 with TC activated). Macro Capability: Minimum focusing distance of only 1.3 meters, ideal for details of insects or flowers from afar. Pro Construction: Extreme sealing (IP53) and heat-reflecting white coating for long sessions in the sun. Internal zoom: The lens does not extend when zooming, keeping the center of gravity stable.
Cons
Very high price: It is by far the most expensive lens in the Micro Four Thirds system (approx. $7,500 - $8,000 USD). Zoom ring travel: The turn to go from 150mm to 400mm is about 90°, which may feel a bit long for very fast actions. Size for the MFT system: Although it is light compared to a 600mm Full Frame, it is still a large lens that requires high-end bodies (OM-1, E-M1X) to be balanced. Availability: Due to its artisanal manufacturing process, it usually has long waiting lists or limited stock. Screw-on sunshade: The screw system for fixing the sunshade is safer, but less agile than traditional bayonet systems.
