Summary

The Lomography Joseph Petzval Métamorphose 35mm f/1.8 from Lomography is an innovative manual-focus art prime designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras, reimagining the legendary 19th-century Petzval optical formula in a versatile wide-angle focal length. Featuring a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture and a groundbreaking focus-coupled bokeh regulation ring, this unique lens empowers photographers and videographers to modulate background character across seven distinct levels—ranging from delicate soap-bubble blur to a dizzying, cinematic optical warp swirl.

A critical engineering triumph of the Lomography Joseph Petzval Métamorphose 35mm f/1.8 is its focus-coupled optical design, which ensures that adjusting bokeh intensity never induces focus drift, allowing seamless in-shot mood transitions during video takes. Its optical formula comprises 6 elements in 5 groups, pairing a stepless circular iris diaphragm with a dedicated slot for drop-in Waterhouse aperture plates that allow creative customization of specular background highlights into distinctive shapes and patterns.

Crafted with a premium anodized black aluminum body, standard mod 0.8 gear rings on focus and aperture rings for seamless follow-focus integration, an expansive 180-degree focus rotation throw, a close 0.35m minimum focusing distance, and a versatile 67mm front filter thread, the Lomography Joseph Petzval Métamorphose 35mm f/1.8 offers unmatched character for portraiture, music videos, narrative cinema, and expressive fine-art storytelling across Sony E, Canon RF, and Nikon Z mounts.
