Summary

The Samyang AF 35mm f/1.8 P FE is now backed by official information rather than early rumor copy. It is a full-frame Sony E prime in LK Samyang’s Prima line, designed around portability, practical handling and everyday reliability rather than maximum aperture bragging rights. The lens weighs 216g, is roughly 72mm long, uses a 62mm filter thread and carries a 10 elements in 8 groups optical design with 2 aspherical and 2 XHR elements. It also brings a 9-blade rounded diaphragm, weather sealing, a supplied hood and a USB-C port for direct firmware updates without a separate lens station.

For real photography, the lens makes sense because it combines a familiar 35mm f/1.8 perspective with modern autofocus and a very low carry penalty. The Linear STM II motor is intended for quick, quiet focusing in stills and video, while internal focusing keeps the physical behavior predictable when using filters or working handheld. A 0.27m minimum focus distance and 0.19x maximum magnification give it enough close-up flexibility for details, food, tabletop scenes and environmental fragments. UMC II coating and the XHR optical elements make the specification feel much more concrete than the old preliminary description suggested.

The Samyang AF 35mm f/1.8 P FE is best understood as a daily-carry lens for street photography, travel, documentary work, environmental portraits, casual weddings, urban landscapes and hybrid content creation. It pairs naturally with compact Sony full-frame bodies and remains friendly for gimbals or long walks. Its compromises are also straightforward: there is no optical stabilization, no aperture ring, no Fn button and no f/1.4 depth-of-field advantage. That makes it less specialized than larger premium 35mm lenses, but much easier to keep mounted when the goal is a light kit that still delivers full-frame rendering and dependable autofocus.
