Summary

The Sigma 85mm f/1.2 DG | Art is a full-frame medium-telephoto prime for Sony E and L-Mount that now has an official product page and complete initial retail specifications. Its identity is built around the very bright f/1.2 aperture, the classic 85mm portrait focal length and a Dual HLA autofocus system. Sigma places it in the Art line and lists 17 elements in 12 groups, 13 rounded diaphragm blades, an 82mm filter thread, 905g weight and roughly 87 x 122mm dimensions for the Sony E version.

The photographic value is the combination of strong subject separation and unusually manageable mobility for an autofocus 85mm f/1.2. The official minimum focusing distance is 84cm and the maximum magnification ratio is 1:8.9, making it useful for tight portraits, wedding details and product close-ups without turning it into a macro lens. It also includes a professional control set: aperture ring, iris lock, click/de-click switch, AF/MF switch, AFL buttons in two positions, dust- and splash-resistant construction, a water- and oil-repellent front coating, and the LH878-08 hood in the box.

In practical use, this is a specialist tool for portraits, fashion, weddings, editorial work, shallow-depth video and low-light scenes where bokeh is part of the visual language. It is not a small or inexpensive everyday prime: the launch price is listed at $1,599 and the 905g weight is significant compared with f/1.8 or f/1.4 alternatives. In exchange, it offers a focused mix of extreme brightness, modern autofocus, durable construction and advanced manual operation for photographers who prioritize rendering, control and separation over maximum portability.
