Summary

Prime APS-C for Nikon Z mount with f/1.2 aperture and fast autofocus using Dual HyperVCM motor. It covers an approximate equivalent of 85mm in full frame, portrait-oriented and low light. ---- The Viltrox AF 56mm f/1.2 Pro is presented as an optical gem for Nikon's APS-C system, standing out for its professional-grade construction and exceptional f/1.2 luminosity. Unlike cheaper options, this lens belongs to the brand's "Pro" series, which translates into a weather-sealed metal body, a diaphragm ring with silent use (de-click) option for video and a programmable function button. Its focusing system uses a voice coil motor (VCM), which guarantees a fast, precise and silent response, ideal for taking advantage of the eye and face tracking systems of modern cameras. In terms of visual performance, the lens shines by offering astonishing sharpness from its maximum aperture, allowing the subject to be separated from the background with a smooth transition and a highly aesthetic bokeh thanks to its 11 diaphragm blades. Chromatic aberrations are remarkably controlled, allowing shooting in high-contrast conditions without fear of unwanted colored edges. Although it is a heavier and bulkier lens than conventional f/1.4, its image quality directly competes with much more expensive native optics, offering faithful color reproduction and excellent microcontrast. Given its focal length equivalent to about 85mm in universal pitch, its main use is, without a doubt, portrait photography, where the combination of sharpness in the eye and blurred backgrounds creates cinematic-looking images. However, its large aperture also makes it ideal for indoor event photography or low-light situations, allowing you to maintain low ISOs. In addition, thanks to its silent focus motor and manual control of the diaphragm, it is a very capable tool for videography, especially for detailed shots or interviews where total control over the depth of field is sought.
