Summary

Viltrox AF 75mm f/1.8 EVO is an APS-C prime for Nikon Z mount built with a very clear portrait and short-telephoto purpose in mind. A 75mm focal length, bright f/1.8 aperture and STM autofocus give it the kind of specification set that many photographers look for when they want tighter framing, smoother background separation and dependable autofocus without moving into a larger or more expensive full-frame telephoto lens. At 355g, with a rubber-sealed mount and a 58mm filter thread, it also presents itself as a practical day-to-day option rather than a specialist optic that only makes sense in controlled environments.

From a photographic standpoint, a 75mm APS-C lens sits in a useful position for portraits, event details, food, product framing and any scene where a slightly compressed perspective can improve subject separation. The official optical design of 11 elements in 9 groups, including 2 ED and 2 HR elements, suggests a lens tuned for cleaner rendering and better correction of common aberrations while preserving strong sharpness where facial detail, texture and contrast matter most. The f/1.8 aperture also expands its usefulness beyond portraits by helping with indoor work, available-light shooting and more controlled depth of field in video.

In practical use, the Viltrox AF 75mm f/1.8 EVO looks well suited to portrait sessions, small event coverage, wedding detail work, interview-style video, close detail shots and travel kits that benefit from a compact short telephoto instead of a heavier zoom. Its 0.74m minimum focusing distance does not make it a macro lens, but it does widen the range of close-up compositions that are realistic in everyday shooting. Combined with STM autofocus, modest weight and APS-C coverage, this lens should appeal to Nikon Z users who want a portable portrait prime that can deliver both visual separation and practical handling in a compact system.
