Summary

The Zhongyi Optics AF 35mm f/1.4 is a fast prime lens designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras that has recently surfaced through preliminary leaks and trade show prototypes, currently remaining in an unconfirmed rumor phase without any official release announcement from the manufacturer.

Based on leaked photographs and pre-production copies in Sony E mount, this optical development represents a major strategic milestone as the company first-ever lens featuring an electronic autofocus mechanism. The external metal barrel construction integrates tactile physical controls, notably a dedicated manual aperture ring, a physical AF/MF focus switch, and a customizable Fn button, providing immediate hands-on control tailored to the operational demands of documentary photographers and hybrid video shooters.

Should this lens materialize commercially across Sony E, Nikon Z, and Leica L mounts, it would establish itself as a highly appealing and cost-effective solution for street photography, environmental portraits, low-light documentary projects, and creative filmmaking where the shallow depth of field of an f/1.4 aperture is essential, delivering strong value against more expensive first-party alternatives.
