Summary

The 7Artisans AF 18mm f/2 from 7Artisans is an ultra-compact pancake prime designed for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras with APS-C sensors. Weighing in at an exceptionally light 109g and measuring just 32mm in length by 64mm in diameter, this pancake lens prioritizes extreme portability without compromising on a fast f/2 maximum aperture. Providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of roughly 27mm, it delivers a natural and lively wide-angle perspective well-suited for street photography, travel chronicles, environmental portraiture, vlogging, and everyday walkaround documentation where keeping a discreet profile is paramount.

Internally, the optical formula comprises 9 elements arranged in 7 optical groups, incorporating one extra-low dispersion (ED) element and one high-refractive index element to effectively suppress chromatic aberrations and preserve contrast and clarity across the frame. Autofocus operation is driven by a smooth and quiet STM stepping motor, fully supporting modern camera autofocus tracking modes including real-time eye and subject detection. A 9-blade circular diaphragm renders smooth background out-of-focus areas, while a close minimum focusing distance of 200mm allows photographers to capture close-up details while retaining surrounding environmental context.

Featuring a dedicated aperture control ring with Auto setting, an integrated USB-C firmware update port, standard 52mm front filter thread, and an accessible official store price of 169 USD, the 7Artisans AF 18mm f/2 serves as an enticing lightweight everyday option for creators seeking wide-angle versatility without carrying excess bulk.
