Summary

The 7Artisans AF 40mm f/2.5 Lite is a full-frame autofocus prime for photographers who want a camera to feel smaller, quicker and easier to carry. Its 40mm angle of view sits between the familiar 35mm documentary look and the tighter feel of a 50mm normal lens, making it useful for everyday photography, travel, street work, environmental portraits and casual video. The current product page lists Sony E, Nikon Z and Leica L mount options, so this should be treated as one optical design with multiple mounts rather than separate lens records.

The design is built around portability and direct handling. At about 90g, with a roughly 63 x 40mm body and a 46mm filter thread, it is small enough to leave on a full-frame body for walks, commuting or a minimal travel kit. The f/2.5 maximum aperture is not meant to replace a faster professional prime, but it is bright enough for available-light snapshots and subject separation at close distances. A 0.4m minimum focusing distance gives it some flexibility for tabletop details, while the 7 elements in 6 groups optical construction keeps the lens compact and uncomplicated.

For practical shooting, the appeal is the mix of low price and unusually complete controls. The STM stepping motor brings autofocus to stills and video, the clicked aperture ring gives immediate exposure control, the AF/MF switch avoids menu diving and the FN button can speed up a frequently used camera function. It is not weather-sealed or optically stabilized, and its lightweight build naturally asks for realistic expectations, but as a walkaround, street, travel or family-documentary lens it makes a full-frame kit feel approachable and ready to use.
