Summary

The TAMRON 12-20mm f/2.8 Di III is an ultra-wide zoom for full-frame mirrorless cameras. It covers 12mm to 20mm with a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, giving photographers an unusually wide field of view while preserving the speed expected from a serious low-light zoom. Support for Sony E and Nikon Z systems makes it relevant to full-frame mirrorless users who need a wider perspective than a conventional 14-24mm or 16-35mm lens can provide.

The specification makes the lens especially relevant for landscape, architecture, interiors, nightscapes and astrophotography. It provides a 121°58′ to 94°30′ diagonal angle of view on full frame, an optical construction of 17 elements in 12 groups, a 12-blade circular diaphragm and a 0.18m minimum object distance at the wide end. The 1:5.8 maximum magnification at 12mm gives it useful foreground exaggeration, so close subjects can remain large while the background stays expansive.

In practical terms, the TAMRON 12-20mm f/2.8 Di III is aimed at photographers who need a bright ultra-wide zoom that remains portable enough for travel, mountain landscapes, city interiors and location work. The Sony E version is about 119mm long and 570g, with a 90mm maximum diameter; instead of a conventional front filter thread, it uses an integrated rear filter holder. That tradeoff supports the extreme 12mm coverage, but it also means filter handling is different from standard wide zooms.
