The Leica SL3-S (SL3S) is Leica's fastest full-frame camera in the L-Mount system: an IP54-rated magnesium and aluminium body that pairs a 24.6 MP CMOS sensor with the Maestro IV processor. Its phase-detection autofocus spreads 779 points across the sensor, and 5-axis stabilisation makes handheld shooting dependable.
For stills, bursts reach 30 fps in 12-bit with continuous tracking, and two multishot modes —48 and 96 megapixels— raise resolution while working handheld. The 5.76-million-dot electronic viewfinder and the 3.2-inch touchscreen with 2.33 million dots keep framing clear outdoors, while the CFexpress Type B and SD UHS-II slots cover both backup and demanding recording. The body weighs 768 g without battery and is rated for 315 CIPA shots.
Its ground is photojournalism, weddings, documentary and commercial work where stills and video alternate through the same day: it records 6K Open Gate at 30p, 4K at 60p and FHD at 120p, with internal ProRes 422 HQ and 5.9K RAW over HDMI. The sensor omits the optical low-pass filter, which favours fine detail in architecture and product work, and the IP54 sealing lets the camera move from the studio to the street or a rainy location without unnecessary precautions.
