The Sigma 20-60mm f/2.8-4 DG Contemporary is a full-frame standard zoom for L-Mount and Sony E that starts wider than the usual 24mm class. Its 20-60mm range covers landscapes, interiors, travel, video and everyday scenes, while the variable f/2.8-4 aperture keeps useful brightness at the wide end. Sigma's official specifications list 15 elements in 13 groups, 3 SLD elements, 3 aspherical elements, a 9-blade rounded diaphragm, a 67mm front filter thread and a variable minimum aperture down to f/22-32.

The most interesting part is the mix of portability and close focusing. In L-Mount it measures about 72 x 86mm and weighs 385g, while the Sony E version extends to 88mm and weighs 375g. Sigma lists a 15.8cm minimum focusing distance at 28mm, plus 20cm at the wide end and 25cm at the tele end, with 1:2.3 maximum magnification at 35mm. That close-up ability makes it useful for travel details, food, small objects and cutaway shots without carrying a dedicated macro lens.

For hybrid use, the HLA autofocus motor, minimized focus breathing, dust- and splash-resistant construction, water- and oil-repellent front coating, and supplied LH706-04 hood round out a very practical package. It will not replace a professional 24-70mm f/2.8 or add built-in optical stabilization, but it offers a more generous wide end, low weight and an $849 reference price.
