The Nikon D90 is a DX-format DSLR introduced in 2008 within the Nikon family. It combines a 12.3-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, Nikon F mount, EXPEED processor, pentaprism finder and 3-inch rear screen with approx. 920,000 dots. It also became historically important for bringing 720p HD video to a DSLR with interchangeable lenses.
Its photographic value lies in the balance between still-useful image quality, clear physical controls and access to a very large Nikon F lens family. The pentaprism finder with approx. 96% coverage, 11-point autofocus, up to 4.5 fps burst shooting and 12-bit NEF RAW files make it useful for learning technique and working with a direct link between exposure, focus and mechanical response. It has no in-body stabilization, touch screen or modern wireless features, but that simplicity helps keep attention on the photograph.
Today it can still make sense for portraits, family photography, slower street work, relaxed travel, daylight landscapes and personal projects with a late-2000s digital look. It also works as an affordable body for exploring DX and AF-S lenses, or as a learning camera for entering the Nikon F mount with a more physical and deliberate shooting experience. Its HD video is more historically relevant than competitive now, but it rounds out a camera that remains very representative of its generation.
