The Panasonic Lumix S5 II (S5II) is Panasonic's full-frame mirrorless camera that marked a turning point for the S series: it was the brand's first L-Mount body with phase-detection hybrid autofocus, using 779 points that improve tracking even in poor light or with several subjects in the frame. It pairs a 24.2 MP CMOS sensor with 5-axis in-body stabilisation and dust-and-splash sealing, in a 740 g body.
For video it stands as a complete hybrid: it records 6K Open Gate in 3:2 up to 30p, 6K in 17:9, 5.9K, C4K and 4K up to 60p and FHD up to 120p, all in 10-bit 4:2:2 with V-Log available. For stills it reaches 30 fps with the electronic shutter (SH30) and 9 fps with the mechanical one, with dual UHS-II SD slots, a 3.0-inch free-angle touchscreen with 1.84 million dots, a 3.68-million-dot OLED viewfinder and roughly 370 CIPA shots of endurance.
Its natural ground is hybrid work without a large outlay: weddings, events, documentary, travel and commercial assignments where stills and video alternate through the same day. It reached the market on 4 January 2023 at a launch price of $1,999.99, and it remains a reference for the balance between capability and size. Worth noting that Panasonic's official store currently lists the model mainly as a lens kit rather than as a bare body.
