Sigma 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 DC OS Contemporary Canon RF Firmware 1.0.1

Firmware 1.0.1 for the 16-300mm Canon RF with freeze, AF and vignetting fixes.

Description

The Sigma 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 DC OS Contemporary Canon RF Firmware 1.0.1 updates Sigma’s all-in-one Canon RF zoom with the broadest improvement in the August 27, 2026 Sigma batch. The headline fix addresses an isolated issue where, when this lens is used with the Canon EOS R6 Mark III, the monitor could black out and the camera could freeze during shooting. On a travel, nature, family sport and lightweight video zoom spanning 16 to 300mm with an f/3.5-6.7 aperture range, preventing a lock-up matters in scenes that cannot be repeated.

Alongside the stability correction, Sigma lists two extra benefits: improved autofocus operation speed and optimized peripheral illumination correction data for better correction accuracy. That makes this firmware more than a single emergency patch. For anyone using the 16-300mm DC OS as a one-lens carry option, the practical gain combines reliability with faster AF response and cleaner optical communication with compatible Canon EOS R bodies, especially when the camera is applying internal lens corrections while images are being captured.

Installation is performed from a Canon EOS R camera, not through EOS Utility. Sigma tells users to update the camera body first, use a fully charged battery or AC adapter, initialize a card in-camera, copy the SGxxx.afu firmware file to the card root, insert the card, attach the lens, open the firmware version menu, select the lens version and confirm the update. Do not turn off the camera, remove the lens or operate controls during the process; after completion, power off, remove the battery briefly, then confirm the lens shows Ver.1.0.1.
