Sigma released it as part of its August 27, 2026 E-mount firmware batch, and while it is not a major feature expansion, it matters for hybrid shooters. On a 35mm Art lens with an f/1.4 aperture, used for environmental portraits, street work, weddings, documentary coverage and low-light scenes, quieter focusing can make the lens easier to use in sensitive situations.

The benefit becomes clearest when a microphone is close to the camera or when ambient sound is recorded while the lens is focusing during a take. It does not change focal length or optical character, but it can make the 35mm f/1.4 DG II Art more comfortable for interviews, travel pieces, social coverage and quiet interiors where focus noise may leak into audio. Installation runs through Sigma’s firmware page for Sony E by downloading the matching Windows or macOS updater. The lens should be attached to a compatible camera with a fully charged battery or AC adapter in use; then connect the camera to the computer by USB, run Lens System Software Updater and follow Sigma’s instructions without powering off or disconnecting during transfer. After completion, restart the setup and confirm the lens shows Ver.02.
