The Leica Q3 is Leica's premium fixed-lens compact: a Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH with eleven elements in nine groups, three aspherical surfaces, a macro mode and optical stabilisation, sitting in front of a full-frame 60.3-megapixel BSI sensor. The body is magnesium with a leather covering, it is rated IP52 and it weighs 743 g with the battery, so a full day on a strap is no burden.
The OLED electronic viewfinder offers 5.76 million dots, 120 fps and 0.79x, and the 3-inch touchscreen with 1,843,200 dots tilts for waist-level shooting. ISO runs from 50 to 100000, bursts reach 15 fps at 12-bit and 7 fps at 14-bit, the central shutter covers 120 s to 1/2000 s with flash sync at 1/2000 s, and the electronic one reaches 1/16000 s. It records to SD UHS-II cards, an 8 GB buffer backs the bursts, and the USB-C port runs at 10 Gbps for transfers and charging. The BP-SCL6 battery claims 350 shots per charge, and the camera shoots 8K at 30p, 4K at 60p and Full HD at 120p.
This is a street, travel and reportage camera that handles almost everything with one fast 28mm and falls back on the 35mm, 50mm, 75mm and 90mm digital crops when the frame needs tightening, without carrying more glass. Leica presented it on 25 May 2023.
