The Leica SL2-S is Leica's full-frame mirrorless camera built around a 24-megapixel CMOS sensor and the L mount, with a 3:2 aspect ratio. It shares its architecture with the Leica SL2 but stands apart through that resolution: half the pixels of its sibling, which means lighter files and a quicker turnaround when you shoot a lot.
The electronic viewfinder is an OLED panel with 5.76 million dots at 0.78x, and the 3.2-inch screen with 2.1 million dots is fixed, with no tilting mechanism, though it does take touch input. Autofocus works by contrast detection, with multi-area, centre, selective single-point and tracking modes plus face detection, and you can focus by tapping the screen, which also moves the focus point while composing. The shutter reaches 1/8000 s, the body weighs 931 g, and the battery is rated for 510 shots per charge under the CIPA standard. Connection to a computer runs over USB 3.2 Gen 1.
It is a camera aimed at reportage, studio work and mixed stills and video production, making use of the L-mount lens range and the ergonomics of the SL series, with a solid body and physical controls. Lenses with that mount fit directly, without an adapter. Leica presented it on 10 December 2020.
