The Leica SL2 is Leica's full-frame L-mount mirrorless camera: a 47.3-megapixel CMOS sensor with 5-axis stabilisation rated to 5.5 stops that can also build 187-megapixel images by combining frames. The body is aluminium and magnesium, protected to IP54, and weighs 920 g with the battery.
The OLED electronic viewfinder reaches 5.76 million dots at 0.78x, and the 3.2-inch touchscreen with 2.1 million dots is fixed. ISO runs from 50 to 50000, bursts reach 10 fps with the mechanical shutter and 24 fps with the electronic one, the mechanical shutter goes to 1/8000 s and the electronic one to 1/40000 s, and there are two SD UHS-II slots. The BP-SCL4 battery claims 450 shots per charge, the sensor leaves out the low-pass filter, and video reaches 5K at 30p, C4K at 60p and Full HD at 180p with L-Log.
It is a camera for reportage, studio, landscape and hybrid production that draws on L-mount lenses and offers a rugged body with physical controls and ergonomics built for large glass. It measures 146 × 107 × 42 mm and adds HDMI 2.0b Type A and USB-C 3.1 Gen 1. A 1.28-inch monochrome top display shows the settings at a glance. Leica presented it on 6 November 2019 at a launch price of $5,995 for the body.
