The Leica M10-D is Leica's digital rangefinder without a rear screen: a 24 × 36 mm CMOS sensor with 24 megapixels, the Maestro II processor and a 660 g body that brings back gestures from the film era. It shares the mechanical base of the Leica M10 but swaps the monitor for an exposure compensation dial and a mechanical switch with a direct Wi-Fi shortcut; the ISO dial sits on the top plate, and the fold-out lever doubles as a thumb rest. Leica presents it with the quietest shutter of any M camera.
Focus stays manual, with the 0.73x optical rangefinder as the reference, and the remaining settings are handled from the Leica FOTOS app over Wi-Fi. ISO runs from 100 to 50000, bursts reach 5 fps with a 2 GB buffer, the shutter covers 8 s to 1/4000 s and storage uses SD, SDHC and SDXC cards. The battery is a 7.4 V lithium-ion pack and the camera does not record video.
It is made for anyone who wants the discipline of film without giving up digital files: street, reportage and documentary work, with the camera reduced to essentials and the screen replaced by a decision made beforehand. It measures 139 × 38 × 80 mm and, through the FOTOS app, sends files straight to a phone. Leica released it on 24 October 2018 at a launch price of $7,995 for the body.
